Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealer Review

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

On January 11, 2019 my life was changed.

Okay, okay, it's not that serious. But ya'll know Rihanna is out here changing the game, one product at at time, and you bet your ass that I am one of the firsts in line at my local Sephora to cop whatever Fenty throws my way. So when I found out that they were dropping concealers, and FIFTY shades of concealers at that, I was floored. Shook. Shookington.

The packaging is in the same matte-glass bottle as their foundation, which I'm obsessed with. I picked up shade 420 for under eye concealing, and shade 445 as a perfect complexion shade for days I want to go sans-foundation. For reference, I wear shade 430 in the Pro Filt'r Foundation. The concealer retails for $26 for 0.27 oz.

Here's the information provided on the Fenty Beauty website:

Whether you’re hiding bags and blemishes or hangovers and bad decisions, your secret’s safe with Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer. The full coverage cure to living life to the fullest, Pro Filt’r is the closest thing to retouching your skin in reality. This creamy, light-as-air, soft matte concealer easily builds to full coverage, instantly brightening under eyes, concealing blemishes and dark spots, and reducing redness. Choose from 50 easy-to-shop shades, each created to complement—not match—your Pro Filt’r foundation. Not sure where to start? Try your foundation shade number, then adjust as needed depending on what you want to conceal. Experience instant photo-ready coverage that lasts all day without creasing or settling into fine lines or pores. This sweat-resistant formula will work on your skin no matter where you go, guaranteed to keep up no matter how late you stay up or wild out.

My take: The first time I wore it I was going on a yacht for the day, and sweating was absolutely inevitable. I applied four dots of shade 420 underneath my eyes because every blogger I had seen review the formula at the time said that a little went a long way. Then I blended the formula out with my fingers. I didn't have the Fenty primer at the time of first application so I used my go to, Ole Henriksen's Banana Bright Eye Creme and they worked--and still work to this day--really well together. I was immediately shocked at how full coverage it was, and it blended out seamlessly. For being a medium to full-coverage concealer, it glides on really creamy and doesn't dry down quickly so you can truly move the product around. The finish is definitely a natural-matte, so not too drying. The wand is also one of my favorites--comparable to Colourpop's No Filter Concealer wand. I wore very little other makeup that day because it was going to be hot, but I wanted to test out the sweat-proof, crease-proof claims. I was out on that boat in direct sunlight for about 4 hours and every time I checked my reflection, my under eyes were 100% unchanged. Mind you the rest of my body was sweating profusely (sorry for the gross image, but it's true). My friend (she works at Sephora) who hadn't gotten her hands on it yet was amazed at how natural it looked. Needless to say, I was hooked, and was definitely going to be reaching for it every day.

I've done an application using just shade 445 (my complexion shade) for a no-makeup makeup look to cover up some small hormonal blemishes and hyperpigmentation and it still looks natural and skin-like. And I have some pretty stubborn dark marks/hyperpigmentation. It often takes two layers of my favorite concealer to get the job done for some of the spots near my chin. Fenty only needed one.

I've applied both 420 and 445 while also beating the rest of my face to the gods and I just love how seamlessly it blends into my skin, plays well with other products, etc. etc. I haven't yet picked up the powders because I have so many powders in my arsenal that I need to get through right now, but soon come.

I picked up a mini size of the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer in order to effectively apply a full face of Fenty products (minus mascara which ain't out yet, but when it is... it's over for you hoes) and I have to say, I personally think I look the most flawless when I use all the products together. Which makes perfect sense because they're formulated to all work together.

I have definitely been reaching for this concealer over the rest of my concealer collection, partly because it's still novel, but it also just looks great on my skin. I hope this review was informative and you all get your hands on it!
